THIRTY-FIVE YEARS

October, 2010 will be the thirty-fifth anniversary of the formation of the Morgantown Chapter of Hadassah.

When our chapter received its charter, National Hadassah told us they understood the limited fund raising potential of a small group of women in West Virginia. Our raison d’etre, first and foremost, was not money, but to raise awareness and support for the state of Israel.

However, we soon recognized the wisdom of Henrietta Szold. She understood that support of a theoretical, future Jewish state was abstract, while raising money for nurses and milk was concrete. Since most people function best in the sphere of the concrete, Hadassah’s ability to meet its larger goal of support for Israel was enhanced by providing concrete project goals. Following her wise advice, Morgantown embraced its fund raising obligations.

We are proud we normally meet or exceed our fund raising goals. Our overarching goal remains the well being of Israel. Our fund raising success helps support that goal in a concrete and meaningful way.
